Dragon Mart Shopping Center Expands to 47 Football Fields

One of the largest developers in the UAE, Nakheel Properties, has confirmed the start of the second phase of construction of the Dragon Mart Mall in Dubai. Construction work will begin very soon. After completion of construction, which is scheduled for the third quarter of 2013, the total cost of Dragon Mart will be 1 billion dirhams (US $ 273 million). It should be noted that the sum of contracts for the construction of new areas of the shopping center amounted to 600 million dirhams (US $ 163.9 million).

United Engineering Construction was selected as the general contractor for the construction. The Australian company Kele Contracting, based in the UAE, also received two contracts: the first - for the construction of the Dragon Mart Hotel with 240 rooms; the second - for the construction of multi-storey parking for 2 thousand cars.

According to Nakheel Properties, 80% of Dragon Mart 2's retail space has already been leased. "We believe our Dragon Mart project has been successful since its launch in 2004," said Ali Rashid Luta, chairman of Nakheel. - "Doublening its area will help consolidate this success. Already, Dragon Mart is considered the largest shopping center in the world where Chinese goods are sold outside the Middle Kingdom."

The anchor tenants of the new Dragon Mart premises will be: the Geant supermarket, which requested 10 thousand square meters. m; Grand Cinema with nine cinema halls; two-story shopping center with a food court and a private terrace in the open air; roadside service complex and autonomous cooling system.

Today, Dragon Mart, whose length is 1.2 km, has an area of ​​158 thousand square meters. m. On this territory there are 4 thousand outlets, which are visited, on average, up to 52 thousand people a day.
