UAE residents spend 24.3 billion minutes talking on mobile phones

According to the UAE Telecommunications Supervision Authority (TRA), in 2011, residents spent more than 24.3 billion minutes talking on mobile phones, on average, 3 thousand minutes per person.

This indicator significantly exceeds the time spent talking on landline telephone lines - 4.4 billion minutes for the specified period.

The average expenses of UAE residents on mobile phones were recognized as one of the highest in the world. According to TRA, they amounted to 148 dirhams (US $ 40) per month. Fixed line costs - 138 dirhams (US $ 38) per month. It should be noted that this indicator is the second largest in the Middle East region. A recent TRA report also states that the UAE still holds the position of the country with the highest mobile penetration in the world. At the end of May of this year, this figure reached 154%.

The total number of mobile communication network subscribers in the country amounted to 12.36 million people.
