UN thanks UAE for humanitarian aid to Yemen

The UN thanked the UAE for its contribution to the implementation of the humanitarian assistance program for the Yemeni people.

The UN expressed gratitude to the Government of the United Arab Emirates for its contribution to the implementation of the humanitarian assistance program for Yemen. On the eve of the United Nations published statistics on significant progress made in resolving humanitarian problems in Yemen, thanks to the contributions of the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Food Program, UNICEF and the Women's Union of Yemen presented data for 2018, indicating an increase in humanitarian assistance to Yemen in many areas, including food, health and education. United Arab Emirates allocated $ 465 million to the United Nations for humanitarian assistance to Yemen as part of the YHRP support program.

Ambassador Lana Zaki Nasibe, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations in New York, praised the progress made on this issue, emphasizing the particular importance of support in the context of ongoing hostilities in the Hoadeida governorate.

"YHRP embodies the principles of humanity, impartiality and independence, it is a great honor for our country to join other states in financing the assistance program," said Ms. Nasibe.

"Fighting is still underway in Hodeide, our top priority remains the implementation of the YHRP program and action under international humanitarian law. Currently, the UN is expanding its geography of support by transferring humanitarian supplies via sea, air and land transport channels."

Separately, Ms. Nasseibe thanked the UN staff and representatives of non-governmental organizations in the field for the important work they performed, and also reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to helping the Yemeni people.
