New technology will accelerate the appearance of unmanned vehicles on the streets of Dubai

New high-resolution maps will help unmanned vehicles move along the streets of Dubai.

Dubai's dream of unmanned vehicles on the roads of the emirate is close to reality. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Tuesday, February 6, the imminent appearance of high-resolution roadmaps that will be compatible with unmanned vehicles.

This was made possible thanks to a memorandum of understanding signed with the map service HERE Technologies.

High-resolution mapping is a prerequisite for getting Dubai closer to the goal of converting 25 percent of all public transport into unmanned vehicles by 2030.

This is part of the Smart City strategy, which ultimately aims to improve the quality of life for people in Dubai.

As part of the planned HD Live Map, RTA and HERE will conduct a series of pilot studies. HD Live Map is a self-updating high-definition map designed to provide accurate information to motorists about what is happening on the road.

Abdullah Al Madani, General Manager of Corporate Technology Support at RTA, and Leon van de Paz, Senior Vice President of IoT at HERE Technologies, signed a memorandum.

"RTA has always been a pioneer in using the latest technology in collaboration with the world's best technology providers, contributing to make Dubai the smartest city in the world and its residents, tourists and visitors happy and satisfied," Al Madani said. .

Leon van de Paz added: "Dubai recognizes the importance of new geolocation technologies in improving the efficiency, safety and sustainability of transport for people ... HERE Technologies will gladly and enthusiastically help Dubai achieve its ambitious plans for an unmanned future."
