Today we want to devote material to the rector of St. Petersburg State University of Engineering and Economics Alexander Mikhaylushkin. The university recently celebrated a double anniversary. The university celebrated 100 years since its foundation, its rector - 65 years. In January 2007, the rector once again visited the branch of his university in the United Arab Emirates.
The visit was connected with the development of the first Russian university in the Emirates and the construction of the educational building and student dormitory in the academic city. But today we want to tell not so much about the achievements of the university, but to introduce readers to the person who has been leading him for 17 years.
- Alexander Ivanovich, what do you consider the main achievement in your life?
- Achievement ... Perhaps the fact that I managed to turn a small university - LILE them. P. Togliatti to the university, which today is well known both in the country and abroad. 26 thousand students study there and 2.5 thousand employees work. INJECON today is a university in which you want to live and work.
- So to live? But what about the house?
- I come to work at 9 in the morning and leave at 9 in the evening, and I don’t want to leave, believe me. In the first place for me is a university. Home is the second. Probably because everything is fine in the house. There is a wife with whom we have been together for 38 years, there is a daughter, son, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, four grandchildren. Big friendly family. We have many friends who like to visit us.
- And how does the family feel about your love for the university?
-Okay, only my homeworkers believe that I should be more strict with students, that they should come to me by appointment. They do not like that I can go to a meeting with students in a tracksuit, that I sing in public.
- What do you sing?
- I sing everything. Romances, modern songs, songs of my youth. At his anniversary evening in the Ice Palace, he sang the song "My only" from the stage ...
- Do you want your grandchildren to come to study at your university?
- Yes. By the way, they have already chosen the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Finance, specialty "Finance and Banking". Now they are in 11th grade and go to preparatory courses in ENGECON.
- And what, in your opinion, are the strengths of Russian education?
- First: fundamental. Our education is expensive, because we give the student everything - philosophy, political science, and excellent engineering training. And the second: initially, Russian education set itself the task of forming the intelligentsia. No country in the world thinks about it. Our universities have been and are distinguished by the fact that they release people with a philosophical outlook from their walls. We form a personality. In my opinion, the future lies with the intelligentsia.
- That is, those who come to study at a branch of your university in the Emirates will not regret their choice?
“Not for a second.” All students will receive (naturally, if they wish) a serious education that will be in demand anywhere in the world.
“Are you a happy person?”
- Yes, I'm a happy optimist. I am happy because everything that I wanted to do in my life I did. Happy because I have a reliable rear. The happiness is that there is a continuation of my life in children and grandchildren.

- A real man is one who loves to work. This is a breadwinner who provides his family with a good life. A real man must be successful. And let their wives not be offended when men take the first place. It should be so.
