Hotel "Burj Al Arab" has updated its famous aquarium

Dubai's Burj Al Arab, the most luxurious hotel in the world, has unveiled an updated aquarium with exotic fish. In the famous 500,000-liter aquarium in the main lobby of the hotel, the decor was changed, a high-tech underwater lighting system was installed, the filtration system was improved and a new artificial coral reef was placed.

"We are proud that we were able to create the most natural habitat for our fish, close to natural conditions, while we did not use real corals," says marine biologist Warren Beverstock, who is responsible for maintaining the aquariums in the hotel. The Burj Al Arab has three aquariums: two are located in the main lobby of the hotel, and the third is surrounded by the famous “underwater” restaurant Al Mahara. More than 4000 exotic fish, 40 species, live in the aquariums, among which are the zebra shark, bamboo shark, clown fish and surgeon fish.

The cult hotel aquarium attracted the attention of the press in 2011, when the Zebedee zebra shark brought offspring as a result of parthenogenetic reproduction, that is, in the absence of a male. This phenomenon turned all scientific ideas about zebra sharks up and was widely covered in scientific articles.
