Athlete of the Year

Skater Evgeni Plushenko again became an athlete of the year according to a survey by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM). 10% of respondents voted for his candidacy. Pole vaulter Elena Isinbayeva (5%) took second place, and Alexander Ovechkin (3%), forward of the Washington Capitals NHL hockey club.
