Arab Emirates Foreign Minister speaks out against escalation of conflict in the region

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates called on countries to join forces for de-escalation after the attack on tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

"It is necessary to make joint efforts to protect the region from escalation of the conflict," said Sheikh Abdallah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, on Saturday, June 15.

The statement was made against the backdrop of an incident that occurred with two tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Recall last week two tankers - Front Altair under the flag of the Marshall Islands and Kokuka Courageous under the flag of Panama - were attacked 70 nautical miles (about 130 km) from the emirate of Fujairah (UAE). The crews of the tankers were evacuated. One person was slightly injured.

The United States blamed the incident on Iran. As evidence, a video was provided in which fighters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard remove an unexploded mine from the hull of one of the tankers.

"Security and stability in the region will be achieved only when all players work together. Our region is the main energy supplier for the whole world. Our reliability and security are the key to ensuring prosperity and stability," the minister said.

Both tankers, according to recent reports, were towed to UAE ports on Saturday.
