Abu Dhabi Opens Cultural and Historical District

This year, a cultural area with an ancient fort and a palace will be opened in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced that the grand opening of the Al Hosn cultural district will take place on December 7th.

Al Hosn consists of four elements - Qasr Al Hosn Fort, the buildings of the Cultural Foundation, the National Advisory Council and the House of Artisans.

Qasr Al Hosn is the oldest and one of the most important sites in Abu Dhabi, which houses two iconic buildings at once - the Fort, built in 1795, and the Palace, built in the 1940s. Previously, the district served as a home for the ruling family, a meeting place for the government, an advisory board, and a home base for national archives.

Now Qasr Al Hosn has become a heritage museum, which serves as a national monument demonstrating the development of the city from a small settlement founded in the 18th century to the modern metropolis.

The restored building of the Culture Fund will be launched in stages from December 7. Visitors will be able to visit the unique children's library, the center of visual arts, which will present exhibition halls and art studios, and the theater.

Muhammad Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the DCT Abu Dhabi, said: "Qasr Al Hosn is fraught with the story of Abu Dhabi, our very first building. It serves as the heart and spirit of our people and the repository of our collective memories."

"In addition, we are very pleased to reopen the Cultural Foundation, which has always played an integral role in the cultural life of Abu Dhabi, the UAE and the region ... This place serves both to reflect on our past and to understand the present," he added.
