UAE bans poultry imports from Russia

UAE officials have introduced a ban on the import of poultry from Russia after the outbreak of the virus in the Kursk region.

UAE authorities have banned the import of all types of domestic and wild live birds, ornamental birds, chickens, hatching eggs, meat and meat products without heat treatment after the spread of the highly pathogenic strain of bird flu, H5N2, in one of the farms in the Kursk region.

Appropriate action was taken following an outbreak report from the World Health Organization.

However, the ban does not apply to poultry products (meat and eggs) that have undergone heat treatment.

Dr. Majid Sultan Al Kassimi, assistant secretary of the Food Diversity Division at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Protection, said: “The measures taken by the authorities indicate the ministry’s interest in achieving strategic goals, including improving biological safety and preventing pathogens from entering the country microorganisms, which is why the ministry is doing everything necessary to prevent the development of the bird flu virus and related threats th and human security in poultry. "

Ministry officials are carefully studying the documentation accompanying the consignment of goods imported into the country: certificates of origin, sanitary and epidemiological conclusions and certificates of halal products.

Inspectors also conduct organoleptic testing to ensure that the quality of the goods complies with UAE standards.

Before importing food, batch samples are sent to laboratories for the necessary tests.
