Dubai will be the first city in the world with digital car numbers

Dubai begins testing smart car license plates.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai will begin testing smart car license plates, numbers, design and other information that can be changed digitally without changing the number plate itself.

RTA said Dubai will be the first city in the world to implement such a system. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with Team Target International, the sole representative of the American company Reviver Auto in the Middle East.

This step is part of the RTA's initiative to turn Dubai into the "smartest city in the world."

Abdullah Yusuf Al Ali, director general of the RTA Licensing Agency, said: "Launching these smart car numbers in Dubai will bring about a fundamental shift in the concept of traffic, as well as in technological transportation infrastructure."

Al Ali explained that such numbers could be controlled centrally. With their help, it is possible to exclude the possibility of theft of both numbers and the vehicles themselves. It will be possible to add signs to the plates that will inform other road users that the novice driver is driving.

“It will be possible to combine numbers with the electronic payment system, and warnings and messages can be displayed on them in case of emergency or accident,” he added.
