A court in the UAE has given 10 years in prison for insulting a national leader

The Federal Supreme Court upheld a 10-year prison sentence on a man accused of insulting a leader in the Arab Emirates.

After the first hearing on Monday, January 15, 2018, the UAE Federal Supreme Court upheld a 10-year prison term for a person found guilty of insulting and mocking the UAE leader.

Having heard the appeal filed by the emirate, who was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of joining the ISIS terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation, the court also upheld a fine of 500 thousand dirhams ($ 136 thousand).

According to a lower court, the man went to Thailand to meet with members of a terrorist organization. In court, he pleaded not guilty and said that there was no evidence of his attempt to join any terrorist organization.

The second hearing was adjourned until January 29, 2018.
