Dubai met with St. Petersburg jazz

On December 19, the Royal Mirage Hotel hosted a Jazz Bouquet concert with the participation of graduates of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. It was held thanks to the support of the Minister of Education and Science, Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak al Nahyan.

The musicians played both the compositions of their compositions, as well as classical things - “Summer Time” by Gershwin and “Ellington's Caravan”. Among them was drummer Sergei Ostroumov, who was noted in the early 1990s for playing at several prestigious international festivals.

The pianist Andrei Kondakov is now the art director of the St. Petersburg JFC club JFC. Among his sensational projects was Brazil All Stars with the participation of Brazilian singer Barbara Mendes.

Double bass player Vladimir Volkov is a broad-minded person. For example, he played free-style with the Moscow Composers Orchestra, ethno-jazz in Vershki da Roots, and, say, Igor Butman’s Interjaz, a very traditional hard-bop. As for Volkovtrio, in this lineup he realized his love for the energetic guitar improvisation inspired by Bill Frisell and Larval.

Trumpeter Vyacheslav Gayvoronsky was born in 1947 in Leningrad, where he graduated from the Conservatory in the class of pipe. In the late 1970s, he created a duet with Vladimir Volkov, which lasted until 1997. The musicians recorded two records at Melody (Advance to the Past and Russian Songs), a disc at SoLyd Studios and a number of albums abroad.

After the restructuring, Vyacheslav began to create music programs on the radio "Gardarika", once every few months playing on the stage of JFC. "For the soul" he, along with Dmitry Pokrovsky taught at the Academy of Theater on Mokhovaya. A duet with Evelina Petrova was born within its walls; his record was released in London on Leo Records. Then Vyacheslav and Evelina performed in Vienna, in Budapest and traveled to the international accordion festival in Italy.

The performance of the Petersburgers in Dubai was organized by a graduate of the St. Petersburg Conservatory Elena von Haifen. She is a sixth generation musician who began to study music at the age of four. In 1992, Elena left for Switzerland and lived there until 1997, when after a concert in Dubai, Sheikh Al-Kassimi invited her to teach music to his children. Now she lives and works in Dubai.

A few years ago, she began to organize concerts of Russian musicians in the Emirates. In the spring, Elena is going to introduce us to the visual and vocal art of her beloved Switzerland.
