Dubai car documents and driver licenses can now be updated online

The Dubai Roads and Transport Committee (RTA) has opened two new services on its own web portal, allowing motorists to update their driver’s license and registration documents for the car via the Internet.

New types of services are fully interactive and do not require motorists to have a personal presence in RTA offices. Thus, the entire process of paperwork is connected to the Internet and takes much less time than in its traditional format. In order to take advantage of the new RTA services, you must register on the committee portal at www.rta.ae. In order to receive a new registration document for a car, the driver must undergo inspection at one of the RTA certified service centers and insure the car for the next year. All data on these procedures is entered in an interactive form, which is then compared by the system with the information received from the inspection center and the insurance company.

To renew your driver’s license, you must have an eye test done at one of the RTA-certified centers (Al Jaber Optical Center or Yateem Opticians). To pass the test, you must have a copy of your passport and a photograph. The center will contribute the results to the RTA system directly. After confirming the data, the motorist must pay the state fee via the Internet for registration or a new driver’s license, as well as all available fines, using a bank card or e-dirham. If all the procedures were successful, the system sends an SMS message confirming the acceptance of documents for registration. The new document is delivered to the motorist by courier within four business days. According to RTA, there are currently more than 1 million vehicles and more than 1.2 million drivers registered in Dubai.
