Molteni & C - Italian interiors

Interviewed: Elena Olkhovskaya

There are a lot of furniture in the world. Beautiful, comfortable, expensive, cheap - different. But there is furniture, at the mere mention of which everyone understands, it is unsurpassed quality and style. It is, of course, about Italian furniture. But, that's why consumers around the world buy it with such pleasure and what is so special about it? Andrea Campaner, General Director of FINASI, which recently opened a branded furniture showroom in Dubai and represents the products of the Italian group of companies Molteni, kindly agreed to give us answers to this and other questions.

Tell me, Andrea, what is the secret to the success of Molteni furniture and its incredible popularity?

I think the whole thing is in the family. Molteni is a family business that was founded in 1934 and is now managed by the third generation of the Molteni family. Today Molteni & C is represented all over the world, starting from the USA and continuing its activities in Japan, China, Australia, Russia, other countries, in total, more than 50.

What brings you to Dubai?

In Dubai, we are opening the world's fourth flagship Molteni showroom. We already have branded stores in New York, London and Melbourne, now the turn of the Middle East has come.

What furniture will be presented in this salon?

Molteni company consists of four main divisions: Molteni & C (furniture for home), Unifor (furniture for office), Dada (kitchen) and Citterio. Through this collaboration, the Molteni group offers turnkey interior solutions worldwide. In the 1970s, the company was divided into three parts, and today it is again an integrated group that is able to control all stages of work - from the selection of materials and development of concepts to the final production of products.

Yes, I must say that we call this showroom in Dubai “technical”, as it is, to some extent, designed for professional interior designers and architects, as well as for end users. After all, as soon as a person is in our salon, he can find suitable solutions for all corners of his apartment or house - a bedroom, kitchen, living room, dressing room and so on. Moreover, all this, made with impeccable quality.

Which furniture and interior designers does the Molteni group collaborate with?

One of the main strategies of Molteni since its founding was to collaborate with leading designers. Today, all the collections presented in our salon are made by celebrities such as Aldo Rossi, Jean Nouvel, Pierre Luigi Cherry, Dante Bonucelli, Rudolfo Dordoni and others.

What collections have made Molteni particularly famous?

We produce many different furniture series for the home. But in the early 1980s, the leadership of Molteni decided to engage in corporate activities, which means starting to offer interior solutions for a wide variety of market segments. Today Molteni carries out orders for a wide range of corporate clients, which includes hotels, museums, cruise liners, private yachts, retail chains, hospitals and theaters. Among our recent projects are the complete decoration and furnishings of cruise ships of operators such as Holland America Line, P&O, Walt Disney and Cruise North Sea Ferries. We have created furniture and interior solutions for Cartier boutiques around the world, developed new interiors for the Fenice Theater in Venice and the new Concert Hall in Athens. By the way, our kitchens are installed in the apartments of the highest tower in the world - Burj Dubai.

If a customer needs a complete turnkey design of his home, how long will it take and do you take up such orders?

Yes, Molteni furnishes interiors and furnishes homes for private customers. The timing of production and delivery depends on the specific order, because some of the items can be selected by the customer from ready-made collections, and something will need to be made additionally. But personally, it seems to me that the range of our products is so wide that we can satisfy the tastes of various customers.

So Molteni customers must be patient?

Well, in general, yes. Although, the capabilities of our highly skilled craftsmen, which Molteni is so proud of today, allow us to fulfill orders on time and with the highest quality.

Do you think the opening time of the flagship salon in the Middle East is not entirely successful?

If you are talking about a crisis, then I personally think that in this part of the world it is just not particularly noticeable. Moreover, Molteni worked fairly well in pre-crisis times, and therefore has substantial resources to withstand the effects of the economic downturn. And the opening time of the flagship store seems to me very successful when, if not at the lowest price threshold, investing in business expansion?

I take this opportunity to invite your readers to our salon so that they can make up their own ideas about Molteni & C.

Thanks for the conversation, Andrea. We wish you success and new customers from the Middle East.
