AT THE TIME, WHEN WE FIRST TIME MET WITH MAXIM SOKOLOV, HE WAS THE ABSOLUTE WINNER OF THE PEPSI FLOW BOARDING COMPETITION 2009 COMPETITION (1st PLACE), 2009 AND THE UNIVERSITY OF SUSPENSION OF SUSPENSION (2009). Ever since the last publication, a lot has happened in Maxim's sports biography.

After winning the 2009 Pepsi Flowboarding Competition, for which our 12-year-old compatriot was then awarded the main prize - a trip to South Africa to participate in competitions at Wave House Durban, Max became a popular person in the famous Emirate water park Wild Wadi Dubai. After such a bright victory, the young athlete got his first sponsors: O'Neill, a sportswear and accessories company, and Wild Wadi Dubai water park.

The Science of Winning

In April 2010, Max took part in major competitions in Durban, where he received a prize for the highest jump Big Air from the company Red Bull. The uniqueness of Wave House Durban is that there are two waves there: right and left. Therefore, athletes from this country are true universal. Max’s skiing experience in Durban turned out to be invaluable - this is new acquaintances with the best floaters in the world, and a lot of new impressions.

In the summer of this year, Maxim Sokolov took part in the US Flow Tour 2010, where he competed among juniors. He was a participant in 4 stages of competitions held in different cities of the United States. Max performed very successfully, taking the first two places, as well as second and third. In addition, Maxim Sokolov performed in adult competitions at Flowbarel (left wave) at Wave House San Diego. After that, he was invited to take part in a show program held at the Toronto Expocenter. There, Max demonstrated his skills along with the best American athletes, and also learned how to do new tricks, among which one of the most difficult is the back flip with a pirouette.

Home to Dubai!

The experience gained in the USA from performing at the largest competitions helped Max win the 2010 Pepsi Flowboarding Competition at Wild Wadi Dubai, which took place in early October 2010. These competitions revealed not only the UAE champion, but also qualified for the participation of the United Arab Emirates team in IFC - The International Flow Championships 2010 in Singapore. Therefore, this year's championship in Wild Wadi Dubai was held according to a more complex scheme, and based on its results, a national team of 4 people was composed, which included Maxim. Indeed, this year Max Sokolov won the championship in Wild Wadi Dubai, moreover, unconditionally, in all categories: Stand Up and Bodyboard. But if on the “standing” board he was a clear favorite, then on the “lying” board there was high competition. However, Maxim did not save before difficulties and simply decided to test his strength in this category, too, but it turned out that he won.

From right to left

The results of the past year can be called more than impressive. Maxim took part in the World Cup, which was held from October 28 to October 31, 2010 at Wave House Singapore, as part of the UAE national team, Dubai. For the first time, the created team did not fail the country that it represented, and bypassed the Chile team in the final protocol, who had extensive experience in such competitions. Of course, newcomers would hardly succeed in winning the World Cup right away, but they made the UAE team one of the five leaders. According to the results of the World Florading Championship in Singapore, the Americans won, the South Africans took the second place, the Wild Card Team, made up of three Americans and the Dutch, took the third place, the Singapore team turned out to be the fourth, and the UAE team came in fifth, leaving the sixth athletes from Chile a place.

Given the specifics of the competition and the fact that all the teams participating in the World Cup are training on the left wave, and the team from the UAE is on the right, no one expected such results. Surely, many thought that the guys from the Emirates were given the last place. The participants of the Emirate national team were incredibly difficult - in just a few training days it was necessary to change the style of skiing to the opposite. But due to the fact that the team included two Wild Wadi water park employees from South Africa and Maxim Sokolov, who trained on the left wave in the USA, the Emirates were able to get ahead of a strong team from Chile. It remains for us to congratulate Maxim Sokolov on these victories and wish him new waves, new achievements and new countries!

Stay tuned, Max! We will monitor your progress.
