The UAE and Qatar recorded the highest population growth rate in the world

Thanks to the economic boom in Qatar and the UAE, the highest population growth rate in the world has been recorded over the past decade. In Qatar, this figure was 10.71% per year, in the UAE - 10.68% per year. It should be noted that these indicators were five times higher than the average growth rate of the Arab population as a whole, which amounted to 2.38% over the indicated period of time, and six times the average global growth rate of the population, which amounted to 2%.

Statistics provided by the Arab Monetary Fund (AVF), one of the key organizations of the League of Arab Countries, based in Abu Dhabi, showed that the population of Qatar has more than doubled - from 614 thousand people in 2000 to 1.6 million people by the end of 2010 of the year. In the UAE, the country's population has increased from 2.9 million to 8.2 million over the same time period.

"One of the main reasons explaining such a high rate of population growth in these two countries is the massive influx of foreigners, which was facilitated by the oil boom," said an economist at the AVF. “As for the UAE, there was another reason - the authorities conducted a population census using modern methods and technologies that provide more accurate information. The report shows that the population increased to a greater extent in this country from 2000 to 2008, after this growth rate has slowed. "

So, by the end of 2005, the population of the UAE increased by 7.4% and amounted to 4.1 million people; by the end of 2006 - by 21.9% and amounted to 5 million people; by the end of 2007 - by 24% and amounted to 6.2 million people; by the end of 2008 - by 29% and amounted to 8.07 million people. Then the crisis came, as a result of which the population growth in 2009 was only 1.6% and reached 8.2 million people, in 2010-0.7%.

As for the entire Arab population, by the end of 2009 it increased by 1.62% and reached 346.2 million people, in 2010 it increased to 351.8 million people.

In particular, Egypt remains the most populous country in the Arab world - 78.6 million people, followed by Sudan - 41.7 million people, Algeria - 35.8 million people, Iraq - 33.4 million people, Morocco - 31 , 8 million people. The population of Saudi Arabia today is 27.5 million people, Yemen - 23.1 million people, Syria - 20.6 million people, Somalia - 10.5 million people, Tunisia - 10.4 million people.
